Concept

Decoding the River Tees, whose name stems from the Celtic element ‘tēs’, meaning “warmth” and “boiling, excitement”. Later, it would earn a far bolder title: Steel River.

Designed by We Built the World and printed carbon neutrally on eco-friendly, 290gsm Hahnemühle Bamboo paper, offering a smooth, natural, warm-toned surface, matt finish and maximum ageing resistance.

Background

The name of the River Tees is possibly of Brittonic origin. The element tēs, meaning "warmth" with connotations of "boiling, excitement" (Welsh tes), may underlie the name, a fortunate coincidence given its future, where the name Steel River was adopted due to the industry and engineering along its banks.
